Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the group. Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt or shirt that you can sew badges on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.
Scouts uniform
A uniform can be bought from our online shop. If you’re not sure where to start, leaders can give you more information about what to buy. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second hand. There are grants available to help you buy a uniform, ask your leader for more details.
Costs
Each group charges a fee (called subscriptions or subs) to cover the costs of the annual membership fee, a groups’s running costs and their regular meetings – which covers venue hire, admin, insurances and materials for activities. Although many of these costs are annual in nature, to make it more affordable for parents many groups spilt these costs into monthly, termly or quarterly payments. There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps and events. We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to Scouts. If you need help paying subs, please speak to your Group Scout Leader or District Explorer Scout Commissioner.
Hinckley District Scouts also have a hardship fund that can be drawn upon to enable young people and adult volunteers to participate in Scouting.
