Group History

The current HQ building was originally an 18th century Congregational Chapel.  Over a long period of time throughout the 1960’s & 1970’s this became disused and semi-derelict and was eventually donated by the trustees to the youth organisations in the village, these being the Scouts and the Guides.

The Stoney Stanton Guides decided against a joint renovation venture with the Scouts and hence following many negotiations it was agreed that the Scouts would pay half the value of the property to the Guide Association and take over the property.

Conversion of the building to a Scout HQ started around 1984 and represented much hard work by the Leaders and Committee members.  It is understood that the prime movers within the group at that time were Jim Witherspoon, Richard Scott Smith (Wooky) & John Denman, there were others whose names have escape our records.

Being an old building there is always plenty of maintenance necessary and right up to the current time the group is constantly trying to improve and update the property.

Over these years the Group has operated continuously and has been able to provide Scouting facilities and activities for between 60 and 100 members consisting of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts (formerly Venture Scouts).
