Role Overview:
The Squirrel Leader plays a pivotal role in the youngest section of UK Scouting, catering to children aged 4-6 (Squirrel Scouts). The leader will be responsible for delivering fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities that encourage early development, teamwork, and confidence. The role offers the opportunity to shape the growth of young children through play, outdoor adventures, and creative learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Delivery: Plan and lead weekly Squirrel meetings, incorporating a variety of activities such as games, crafts, outdoor adventures, and storytelling.
- Safety & Wellbeing: Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe, inclusive environment, promoting the welfare of all participants.
- Personal Development: Support young children in developing key skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and independence.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with assistant leaders, volunteers, and parents to coordinate and deliver a balanced, engaging program.
- Community Engagement: Actively communicate with parents and build relationships with the local community to promote Squirrel Scouts and support the group.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to UK Scouting policies and guidelines, including health and safety and safeguarding practices.
Essential Skills:
- Enthusiasm for working with young children and fostering their growth.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Creativity in planning and delivering varied activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Commitment to inclusivity and diversity within Scouting.
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience in early childhood education, Scouting, or youth work (though not essential).
- A passion for outdoor activities and adventure.
Training & Support:
No previous Scouting experience is required. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure the Squirrel Leader is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for the role.
Commitment:
This is a voluntary role with a commitment to weekly Squirrel Scout meetings, planning, and occasional events.
